Like his previous book "Animal Farm", George Orwell knew how to knock it out of the park and to keep us talking about it for decades to come. In addition to the John Hurt movie, 1984 also saw the airing of Ridley Scotts famous Apple Macintosh computer advert, which is now considered one of the best adverts ever produced. "Nineteen Eighty-Four" continues to stir up our deepest emotions inside of us even after almost 70 years in print. 1984 is a novel whose relevance never seems to diminish, so be it a new movie or miniseries its almost certain to be adapted again in the near future. Would they think that it's as dystopian as Orwell predicted it? Time to "doublethink" that one! Also, with social media and the Internet nowadays, I wonder what George Orwell and his British contemporaries like Charles Dickens and Roald Dahl would think about today's society. I saw on Wikipedia that there's another film version of "1984" coming out next year. I'm going to see the play again tomorrow night, since it had a profound impact on me as the book and film did. (It was their fall production, and they do a musical in spring.) Their take on the drama is powerful, and the kids' performances and the sets could very well have competed with the "1984" film starring the late John Hurt and Richard Burton, whose final performance as O'Brien will continue to be talked about for decades to come. Last night I saw the play "1984" at a local high school. Even after all this time, I still browse through this book every now and then. I had read this book in 1984 as well as five years later for my Sociology class.
